The Ottoman Collection, part III

Dear Bidders and Coin Enthusiasts,

Our eLive Premium Auction 317 “The Ottoman Collection, part III – Europe and the Ottoman Empire” is online.

The present third part of this highly unusual collection demonstrates again the great extent to which the events surrounding the many conflicts with the Ottoman Empire were expressed in the art of the medal.

Particularly numerous are representations of the battles in the 16th to the 18th Centuries, of the two sieges of Vienna in 1529 and 1683, the siege of Budapest of 1684/1686, and of Belgrade in 1688. With the intensification of non-military contacts with the Ottoman Empire in the 19th Century, the subject spectrum of the medals broadens as well: there are pieces on Turkish diplomats and ambassadors, on the visits of European rulers to the Ottoman Empire, but also on the construction of a railway line in the later Turkish Republic or on Turkish participation in the Paris and London World’s Fairs.

The online auction takes place on Tuesday, February 5th, 2019 at 6 pm.
